Local corporator expresses concern over IMC officials' inaction

Indore: Residents of Tulsi Nagar, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Sai Kripa, Radhika Palace an other colonies in the Nipania area of the city have raised serious concerns over the rapid mushrooming of illegal hostels and small hotels being constructed without approved building plans in these residential colonies.

According to residents, such unauthorized constructions have significantly reduced road space, worsened parking problems, and disturbed the basic civic infrastructure of the area. Despite repeated complaints, residents allege that officials of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and district administration have failed to take timely and effective action.

Residents point out that the legalization of several ceiling plots in Tulsi Nagar is still pending. However, many plot owners have constructed houses, hostels, and hotels without obtaining approved building plans from the IMC. In many cases, the entire plot area has been used for construction, leaving no provision for parking.

Further aggravating the problem, several building owners have constructed ramps extending onto public roads, effectively encroaching upon them and reducing their width. As a result, vehicles are being parked on the roads, making traffic movement extremely difficult in many parts of the colony.

Tulsi Nagar resident and senior journalist K. K. Jha, pointing to the absurd lack of civic amenities in Tulsi Nagar, said that even after a decade since Tulsi Nagar was included under the jurisdiction of the Indore municipal corporation, nearly half of this colony still lacks properly developed roads with drainage lines over 30 years old, which are quite insufficient to bear the sewage pressure of mushrooming houses in the colony.

Local MLA Mahendra Hardia has also raised the issue of illegal constructions and hostels in the Assembly, stating that strict action must be taken against such violations before the situation worsens further.

Similarly, local corporator Sangita Mahesh Joshi has repeatedly brought the matter to the attention of municipal authorities. She expressed concern that illegal hostels and hotels continue to mushroom in the area due to the lack of timely enforcement by civic officials.

Residents and local representatives have urged the district administration and the Indore Municipal Corporation to immediately survey Tulsi Nagar, Mahalakshmi Nagar, and surrounding colonies and initiate strict action against illegal hostels and hotels operating in violation of building norms.
