Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, has today turned into the epicenter of violence, anger, and a mass uprising. In the recent protests, 19 innocent children and youth were shot dead. This brutal incident has further inflamed public outrage against the Oli government and Nepalese security forces.

A Mass Movement Rising from Demands for Freedom of Expression, Hindu Nationhood, and Restoration of Monarchy

Statement of Gorkha Soldier Tiger Rana

Former Gorkha Regiment soldier and writer Tiger Rana stated : “The Oli government has turned into a puppet of corruption and China. Innocent Hindu children and common people are being openly gunned down, even from ambulances used in disguise. This is not democracy but a repressive regime. Nepal was already a Hindu nation, and now the demand for monarchy is rising with greater force. Even while living in India, we will strongly oppose this communist, China-backed government and overthrow it. Oli deceived the people over issues like Lipulekh and Kalapani to gain power, but today he clings to his chair with the blood of innocents.”

Assault on Freedom of Expression

Recently, under pressure from China, the Oli government banned Western social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, while giving free rein to Chinese apps like TikTok.

The young generation (Gen-X) has called this a direct attack on freedom of expression.

The people allege that the government is curbing social media to serve Chinese interests and silence dissenting voices.

Diverse Demands of the Movement

  • This movement is not limited to freedom on social media. It revolves around several critical demands:
  • Anti-corruption mass uprising
  • Demand to restore Nepal as a Hindu nation
  • Call for reinstatement of the monarchy
  • Struggle for youth freedom and rights
  • Artists and Intellectuals Stand with the People

Nepal’s film industry and leading cultural figures have openly sided with the people.

Renowned actor Rajesh Hamal expressed support for the uprising, stating:

“The voice of the people cannot be silenced. The soul of Nepal stands with freedom and justice.”

International Condemnation

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) strongly condemned the killing of 19 children and youth, demanding immediate accountability from the Oli government.

The international community has also voiced deep concern over Nepal’s image and its human rights situation.

Mounting Pressure on the Oli Government

Public anger continues to intensify, with growing demands for Oli’s resignation.

The government is also accused of spreading falsehoods and misusing social media for propaganda.

Young people say they now want only freedom — no matter the price, even if it costs their lives.

Nepal at a Historic Crossroads

Today, Nepal stands at a decisive historical turning point.

This struggle is not merely about social media freedom, but a battle of Hindu Nation vs. Secularism, Monarchy vs. Republic, and Freedom vs. Repressive Governance.

The killing of 19 innocent youths has made this movement fiercer, and the future of the Oli government is now more uncertain than ever.
