Condemning cross-border terrorism and taking a strict stance against the use of its territory for activities targeting neighboring countries, Nepal has strongly backed India’s position against terrorism. Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli clearly stated that no conflict-driven entity would be allowed to operate from Nepali soil against another nation. He reiterated Nepal’s unwavering commitment to global peace and categorically denounced all forms of terrorism. Referring to the killing of a Nepali citizen in the Pahalgam terror attack, he termed it a deep loss for Nepal as well.
On May 8, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) issued a statement urging both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and prioritize regional stability. The ministry reaffirmed its firm policy against “all forms and manifestations of terrorism” and expressed solidarity with India. It further clarified that Nepal will not allow any hostile force to use its soil for harmful activities against neighbors.
Several key political parties in Nepal also expressed support for India’s stand. Nepali Congress (NC) spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat stated that India’s actions against terrorism are justified. NC General Secretary Jeevan Pariyar emphasized that the party supports anti-terror actions globally. Presidential Advisor and NC leader Sunil Thapa condemned Islamic terror as a distortion of spiritual values. NC leader from Madhes Province, Mahendra Yadav, and Chief Minister Satish Singh also declared their support for India.
The Gorkha Voice: “We Are the Guardians of India-Nepal’s Security”
Tiger Rana, a former soldier of the Indian Army’s Gorkha regiment and a prominent nationalist voice, issued a stern warning against Islamic terrorism. He said, “The time has come for retired Gorkha soldiers in Nepal to unite and ensure that our land doesn’t become a hub for Islamic terror.”
Tiger Rana called Islamic terrorism a threat to all humanity, stating that India has long been its target and now terrorist groups are attempting to exploit Nepal’s proximity for espionage, infiltration, and building terror networks. He raised concerns over the construction of illegal mosques and madrasas in Nepal, calling it part of a well-planned jihadi campaign potentially linked to Pakistan-backed proxy groups and sleeper cells.
“As a Gorkha soldier, both India and Nepal are my countries,” he said. “I worry because terrorism always fights a deceitful war under the garb of religion. It justifies the killing of innocents in the name of paradise. Calling Hindus ‘kafirs’ and targeting them through suicide bombings is a perverse mindset.”
Tiger Rana suggested activating old networks of retired soldiers along the Indo-Nepal border to create a collective security framework that can prevent future infiltration from Nepali territory into India. He also appealed to the Nepalese government to take strong measures and deny any support or shelter to extremist groups.
Nepal’s open and vocal support for India’s war against terrorism is a welcome sign for regional peace and cooperation in South Asia. Moreover, Tiger Rana’s alertness as a former Gorkha soldier signals that now is the time for decisive action — not just political statements, but concrete steps to strengthen grassroots-level security initiatives.
