The Delhi High Court stated that press freedom is an essential part of democracy, but it should not be misused. The court observed that today anyone can claim to be a reporter just by holding a mobile phone and a microphone, whereas many lack both journalistic training and accountability. The High Court said that the time has now come for the government to create such a regulatory framework that preserves press freedom while also ensuring accountability for fake, irresponsible, and intimidatory journalism.
