Govardhan Puja is a festival of expressing gratitude towards religion, nature, and preserving traditional values. Govardhan Puja has special significance in Indian culture and religious traditions. It is celebrated on the next day of Diwali and is also known as Annakoot Puja. Its main purpose is to remember the mythological story of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan mountain and protecting the people of Gokul.
Govardhan Puja is associated with faith in Lord Krishna and respect for nature. On this day people worship Govardhan mountain and cow, which symbolizes the protection of the environment and livestock. Through this festival, the message is given that we should conserve nature and be sensitive towards our natural resources.
By lifting the Govardhan mountain, Lord Krishna taught people that we should avoid ego and face adverse circumstances unitedly. Govardhan Puja gives the message that the mutual relationship between nature, animals and humans should be balanced, because all are dependent on each other. On this day, people prepare Annakoot, i.e. various types of food in their homes and offer it to God, which is considered a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
Therefore, Govardhan Puja is a festival of expressing gratitude towards religion, nature and society and preserving traditional values.
